Fall is Here
While we still want to hold onto summer and don’t want to put away our shorts and sandals, we also need to be sure our children are prepared to go outside everyday. We take the children outside twice everyday for approximately 20 minutes each time. Please make sure they are ready to face the weather.
Library Books
Please remember to return the library books on Tuesday so they can be checked in and returned to their shelves. Students can only have two books checked out at a time. If they do not return their books, they cannot check out new books.

What We’ve Been Learning: Math: We have been reading, writing, ordering, comparing, and problem solving. Your child should be bringing home a practice test and study guide. There will be a test on Monday. We will begin studying subtraction in the next chapter. Don't forget to use the Houghton Mifflin (our textbook) web site (
http://www.eduplace.com/kids/mw/g_2.html) for online practice for the test. Click on Cumulative Test Prep on the lower right hand corner. We are testing on Chapter 2. In addition, your child may enjoy exploring some of the other resources on the page.
Social Studies: We have been learning about communities, basic needs, human and natural characteristics. We have compared different kinds of communities.
Science: We have learned that light travels in a straight line. We have noticed many different sources of light and that the intensity of the light varies.
Writing: We have completed a district writing prompt on Thursday. We have made several more entries in our writer’s notebook including a reflection on bus safety.
Reading: I have continued to do reading assessments. We have talked about strategies to use when we come to an unknown word, when what we read doesn’t make sense or look right and the difference between fake reading and getting into your book.
This Week’s Homework-
1. Spelling: Please pick three things from the list each week for homework. Please let me know which items your child did for homework.
2. Math: Please complete and return the math homework that matches our math lessons in class. I have covered the matching lessons in class this week. These problems can be tricky because they are story problems.
3. Reading: Remember to read 15 minutes every day. Remember to record on your monthly reading calendar. Remember to send in your completed September calendar.
Have a great Fall Weekend!
