Time to Change
Yipee!  We get an extra hour this weekend.  Don’t forget to turn your clocks back on Saturday night before you go to bed.

Learning is our job
As the holidays are approaching and the weather is changing, so are our students.  It is harder for them to concentrate on work and they are easily distracted.  Please make sure your child leaves toys and other distracting items at home.  Please talk to your child about the importance of their job.

Progress Reports
Progress reports will be coming home on Wednesday, November 4th.  Please be sure to bring any questions, comments or concerns about the progress reports with you to parent teacher conferences.

Needed
The weather has changed and your child needs to have hats and gloves.  They can even keep an extra set in their locker or their backpack.  They spend at least 20 minutes at lunch and the afternoon outside.  Everyone goes outside.

What We’ve Been Learning-
Reading: We are learning how to jot down notes in our reader’s notebook to help us save our thoughts about our reading.  We share those thoughts with our reading partners.
Writing:  We picked our topic for our personal narratives and have started drafting our ideas.
Math: We have been learning about plane and solid figures.  We have been comparing how they are alike and how they are different.  We have been using mathematical terms like vertices and angles.
Science: We have just completed our first science unit on Light and Shadow.
Social Studies:  We have just started our second unit.  We will be learning about maps and how they can serve different purposes.

This Week’s Homework-
1.  Spelling:   Please pick three things from the list each week for homework.  Please let me know which items your child did for homework.
2.  Math: Please complete and return the math homework that matches our math lessons in class.  I have covered the matching lessons in class this week.
3.  Reading:  Remember to read 15 minutes every day.   Remember to record on your monthly reading calendar.
4.  Social Studies:  We are collecting old maps, and maps from newspapers or other publications so we can explore them closer.  Help your child find a map to contribute to our collection.  The maps will not be return.

Reminders:
Conferences:  Please see the back of the newsletter for the conference schedule.  If you do not have an appointment or need to change your appointment time, please call the office to schedule an appointment.
Party Money:  Please send in party money if you have not already turned it in.  It is $5.00.  Thank you to all the parents who have helped us out with party money.
